The Environmental Resource Center is one of 52 winners to share more than $1,000,000 from the Tom’s of Maine “50 States for Good” community giving program.
The ERC will receive $20,000 to support its environmental education programming, including its youth education programs, collaborative recycling outreach and action program, “pick up for the planet” (PUP) trailhead dog waste pick-up program, pesticide action program and nature workshops.
“The ERC is committed to creating a healthier community and environment, because without clean air, clean water, healthy soil and a diverse plant and animal population, it is impossible to have a physically, emotionally and socially healthy state, country and world,” said Hadley DeBree, the ERC’s executive director.
This fall, passionate community members took to their social media pages to share #OneWaytoHelp, amassing nearly 10,000 submissions. One entrant representing each state and Washington, D.C., was selected to designate a local nonprofit in their area to receive project funding from Tom’s of Maine.
Tom’s of Maine has given 10 percent of profits back to communities since 1970 and encourages employees to use 12 days of paid time off to volunteer every year.
