A Hailey man died Sunday following a single-car accident on state Highway 75, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday afternoon.

Jeffery C. Browne was traveling southbound by himself when his Jeep Grand Cherokee veered off road and crashed through a fence nearby and hung up in a stand of bushes at Cottonwood Creek Circle, just north of his hometown. Police responded just past 5:40 p.m. to the engine running and Brown unresponsive behind the wheel. Deputies performed first aid until Wood River Fire and Rescue took over treatment, ultimately transferring Brown by ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River hospital.

Brown was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was 50 years old.

The cause of the crash had not been determined as of Monday afternoon, and remains under investigation. The vehicle suffered “substantial” damage, according to the sheriff, and Browne was not wearing a seatbelt.
