The city of Hailey announced last night the departure of Fire Chief Craig Aberbach. Aberbach said he will be leaving to be closer to aging parents. His last day on the job will be Sept. 30.
Aberbach started in his position in 2013 after moving to Idaho from Florida. In 2015, he encouraged the city to enter into a contract with the Wood River Fire District, through which he was assigned to the additional post of assistant chief of Wood River Fire and Rescue. In 2017, Hailey and the Wood River Fire District adopted a joint powers agreement in an effort to consolidate services under separate legal entities.
In addition, Aberbach served on the board of the Senior Connection in Hailey, and worked with the local chamber of commerce to create several fundraisers that benefit the Hailey and Wood River fire departments.
Wood River Fire & Rescue Chief Bart Lassman also announced his retirement earlier this summer. His last day will be Oct. 3.
