Candidates interested in running for elected office in November can now file at the Old County Courthouse in Hailey.
Three school board seats highlight the fall slate, which also includes a seat on the Blaine County Recreation District board of trustees, board members for local cemetery and fire protection districts, and municipal posts. Several City Council seats will be on the ballots in Ketchum, Sun Valley, Hailey and Bellevue.
Declarations for all offices—the first step in getting one’s name on the ballot—are available at the Blaine County Clerk’s Office, the clerk or secretary of each district or online through the Blaine County Elections Office website at co.blaine.id.us/196/Elections. Forms must be submitted to the district clerk or secretary of the entity the candidate is filing to serve by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. They’re required to submit all filings to the county the following week.
Write-in candidates need to file a declaration, too. Those aren’t due until Sept. 23.
Candidates must be registered to vote in the district or zone they’re looking to represent, and provide their name, residential and mailing address and office they’re seeking. They must also complete a petition of candidacy by collecting five signatures from other registered voters, which will be verified by the county clerk. Both forms must then be signed by the candidate and sealed in the presence of a notary.
Finally, prior to receiving donations or spending any money on the campaign, candidates must designate a campaign treasurer. That form is available on the county website, too, and pursuant to Idaho law needs to be returned to the Blaine County Elections Office before any campaign expenditures are made.
After filing, candidates have until the 46th day before the election—Sept. 20 this year—to withdraw their name from the race.
