The Blaine County School District’s Latino Staff Advisory Committee will host its third annual Confrencia Educativa Para Padres—that’s “Education Conference for Parents”—on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the Community Campus in Hailey.
Held in Spanish with English interpretation, the conference aims to answer common questions among Latino parents, and spur involvement in their children’s schooling.
“The conference is the culmination of feedback from parents over the past five years who have asked for information in order to support student success in school,” district Communications Director Heather Crocker said in a press release.
For the third consecutive year, Sam Byrd, director of the Centro de Comunidad y Justicia in Boise, will headline the event. In addition to his keynote address, Byrd will also facilitate a discussion among parents, students and staff.
The event is free, and open to all parents. To make attendance easier, there’s also free child care at the Blaine County Recreation District’s HUB, as well as free pizza. (Attendees are asked to bring a side or desert to share.) Plus, sponsor Cox Communications will raffle off a Bluetooth speaker.
