The fifth annual Spot Young Company production has sold out. This tuition-free yearly offering showcases the talents of 30 Wood River Valley students under the tutelage of eight adult mentors. Through the young company, The Spot hopes to help groom the next generation of thespians here in the valley.
For the 2019 Young Company production, The Spot has selected Andrew Lloyd Webber’s widely beloved 1981 musical “Cats,” based on T.S. Elliot’s 1939 poetry collection “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.”
“Cats” is among the most successful musicals ever staged. It claimed seven Tony awards, is one of the highest grossing musicals in history and, as of this year, is the fourth-longest-running Broadway show and sixth-longest-running West End show.
The original West End production ran for nearly 9,000 performances. The Spot’s production is not going for quite that long—just eight showings across six days—but, according to Spot co-founder Natalie Battistone, the show sold out entirely within about 24 hours of tickets first going on sale.
Performances will take place between Dec. 10 and Dec. 15 at The Spot, 220 Lewis St. No. 2, Ketchum. Visit spotsunvalley.com for more information.
