On Saturday, May 11, Sun Valley Opera will host a live screening of the New York Metropolitan Opera, the last of the season.
The opera is Francis Poulenc’s 1956 French-language work “Dialogues of the Carmelites.”
Unfolding over the course of three acts, it tells a fictionalized account of the Martyrs of Compiègne, a group of 16 nuns, lay sisters and externs of the Carmel of Compiègne who opposed the revolutionary government established during the French Revolution and, as with so many during the Reign of Terror, met sticky ends at the drop of the guillotine.
Doors open at the Bigwood Cinema in Hailey at 9 a.m. and the live streaming will begin one hour later. Tickets can be purchased for $16 at any time from the Bigwood box office, and are free for students.
