What happens when you mix a mountain ski town with a stalwart cowboy culture? Well, you get skijoring, probably the most original winter sporting event in the valley.
Each year, the Wood River Extreme Skijoring Association transforms an unassuming field outside of Bellevue into a crowded, exciting field of dreams for the annual two-day skijoring event.
For those who have never encountered this unusual word before, skijoring is an activity by which a horse and rider drag a skier by rope through a timed obstacle course. Think water skiing, but on land and with a live animal instead of a boat.
Online racer registration is now live at woodriveresja.com. For those looking to spectate, mark the calendar for this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15-16. Skijoring kicks off at noon both days at 81 Browning Lane, Bellevue.
