The Argyros will screen the award-winning documentary “The Ataxian” on Saturday, June 15, at 6 p.m.
At age 17, Kyle Bryant was diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disease called Friedreich’s ataxia. Without a known medical cure or even treatment for the disease, his prognosis looked particularly dire. Doctors predicted a grim future in which Bryant would be relegated to a wheelchair, lose his vision, lose his hearing and finally succumb to an untimely demise.
Bryant was not entirely satisfied with that outlook, and decided to do something about it. Though he can no longer walk, he can cycle. To prove that he was not beaten by this disease, Bryant took to a specially designed “trike” and entered the Race Across America, widely regarded as the most difficult bike race in the world.
“The Ataxian” chronicles Bryant’s incredible journey against the odds. The screening at the Argyros, presented by philanthropists Mark and Jami Grassi, will benefit the efforts of the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance. Grab a ticket and support a noble cause this Saturday.
