Josh Johnson, a geologist and former park ranger, will lead a series of hikes this summer for the Idaho Conservation League, the first of which takes place this Saturday, June 29.
The hikes will explore the diverse geological makeup of the area’s various mountain ranges, highlighting the noteworthy differences between the makeup of the Smokies, the Sawtooths and the Pioneers.
The series begins with a gentle 4-mile hike around Baker Lake. Here, Johnson will discuss the geology of the Smokies.
The next event will take hikers to Sawtooth Lake for a 9-mile hike on Aug. 3, and the series will conclude in the Pioneers on Sept. 7.
All of the hikes are free, though donations to the Idaho Conservation League are accepted. Space is limited, so registration is required. Contact Johnson at 208-726-7485 or firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up.
