It has already been a busy season for the Sun Valley Opera, but it shows no signs of slowing down. This Saturday, Feb. 29, at 11 a.m., the opera will continue its presentation of live HD broadcasts from the New York Metropolitan Opera.
This week’s screening, to be held at Big Wood 4 Cinemas in Hailey, will feature Handel’s early Italian opera “Agrippina.”
The work cemented the composer’s international reputation as he began to move into fame and fortune and everything that goes with it.
The drama transports the audience back to ancient Rome. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato stars as the conniving, megalomaniac title character. This new production reframes the action in a more contemporary setting, highlighting all the black comedy, power struggles and sexual politics of both Handel’s original vision and today’s social landscape.
Tickets are available in advance and at the door for $16. Visit sunvalleyopera.com for details.
