Autumn appears to be setting in, and while some may lament the falling temperatures, cloudy skies and preliminary dustings of snow on the mountains, others will be getting excited for apple cider, pumpkins and changing leaves.
The Local Food Alliance and Wood River Farmers Market have teamed up for an afternoon of fall fun festivities next Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 2-6 p.m. at the new Ketchum Farmers Market location in the lower River Run parking lot.
Local favorite Kevin Ware will provide live music, farmers will provide free food samples and fresh-pressed cider, alcohol will be available for purchase with a valid ID, children can enjoy a plethora of activities and attendees can buy tickets for a number of raffle prizes.
The celebration will serve an additional purpose as a launch party for the new “$5 for Farmers” campaign, which seeks to encourage consumers to purchase food and goods from regional farms. According to initiative estimates, if every Blaine County resident spent $5 a week on locally sourced food, it would boost the local economy by $5.7 million annually.
