Deck your halls, support animal shelter

By :EXPRESS STAFF

The Barkin' Basement will display the best of its holiday crockery, tree trimmings and other decorations at the Bow WoW Bazaar, to be held Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Cookies and cocoa will be served to visitors at the thrift shop, which benefits the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley.

"In addition, visitors can see the Barkin' Basement's new cat adoption center," said Andrea Parker, shop manager.

The Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, the first "no kill" shelter in Idaho, promotes companion animal welfare by providing temporary shelter for homeless animals, adopting them to qualified homes and reducing animal abuse, neglect and overpopulation through community education and spay/neuter services. More than 90 percent of its funding comes from private donations.

In 2008 more than 1,500 animals received services from the shelter. This includes 407 animals that were adopted, 263 lost animals that were reunited with their owners, and 421 privately owned animals that were spayed or neutered at no cost to their owners. On an average day, the shelter cares for 45 dogs and 45 cats.

The Barkin' Basement is located at 111S. Main St., Hailey. For additional information on the Bow Wow Bazaar, call 788-3854 or log onto www.animalshelterwrv.org.
