Staff Sgt. Shawn Manning, a soldier with ties to the Wood River Valley, was injured in Thursday's shootings at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.
According to a statement from his family, Manning survived six gunshot wounds. He is still hospitalized and is in stable condition.
Manning currently lives in Lacey, Washington with his wife Autumn. His ties to the area include mother Shari Taylor of Twin Falls and Hailey, sister Kym Lott of Twin Falls and brother Bryan Manning of Hailey.
Lott says Manning was born in Twin Falls and attended school in Jerome and Twin Falls and college at Idaho State University, majoring in Psychology.
He joined the Army in 2000 and served twice in Iraq in 2003 and 2006. He was called back to active duty in October and was preparing for a third deployment. Manning serves in the combat stress unit of the 467th Medical Detachment Unit.
The suspected shooter in the massacre is Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist. 13 people were killed and 29 injured Thursday when reports say Maj. Hasan opened fired at a processing center where soldiers were getting medical attention before being sent oversees.
