Gordon Lyle Poling, a 59-year-old Hailey man, suffered multiple injuries and trauma following a car accident on Croy Creek Road west of Hailey Monday night.
Wood River Fire and Rescue Chief Bart Lassman said passers-by discovered Poling lying in the middle of the road just east of the Wood River Animal Shelter about a mile and a half out Croy Creek Canyon. Paramedics and the Blaine County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene at 8:33 p.m.
Incident Commander, Captain Tom White, classified the man's injuries as Level 1, meaning he incurred multi-system trauma.
"It means a person has suffered multiple fractures, lacerations and possible internal injuries," Lassman said. "You need an operating room within a golden hour. That is the time you have to really save people and do interventions. The classification is important so the whole emergency medical system knows that these people are coming."
Lassman said Poling was ejected from his Jeep and remained unconscious, but breathing, while paramedics worked on him. He was transported him to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center six minutes after paramedics arrived on scene and later flown to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
St. Al's spokesman Mike Vogel said Poling is listed in critical condition.
