Bellevue firefighters Trent Shoemaker, Greg Beaver and Jeff Vert arrived on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from a 2,600-mile road trip from Tampa, Fla. They drove the Bellevue Fire Department’s newly purchased $253,000 fire truck. According to Fire Chief Beaver, the trip cost $1,900 in fuel expenses. “The first leg of the journey was 28 hours straight from Tampa to St. Louis,” Beaver said. “We saved quite a bit of money by driving it, but I don’t think I would do it again. The driver has the only comfortable seat in that thing.” An official christening of the new rig is planned for Oct. 25 at City Hall during a meeting of the City Council.Courtesy photo |
