The Sun Valley City Council has finally gone too far. This absolutely ridiculous war and childish boycott statement have pushed me over the edge. It is time to stop the fighting, it only hurts us all much more than it will ever benefit this community.
I have to ask the city of Sun Valley: Why do you think anyone who lives in Sun Valley came here in the first place and ended up owning property in your city?
It is the same reason that I live here, met my wife here, started a family, created a business, and have personaly poured hundreds of hours into community service of all kinds.
This area is an amazing recreational gem, and we are surrounded completely by public lands with fantastic opportunities available for the residents and the guests to our Valley.
The money collected from property taxes and from Sun Valley businesses should absolutely be used to continue support of the Marketing Alliance and to build up our communities rather than to tear them down!
To be more accurate, it is the local option tax money that funds the Alliance and not the property tax. But my main point here is that the City of Sun Valley needs to be a partner in this effort.
All of the good things that have happened in the 40-plus years that I have been here are directly because of a positive attitude and cooperation among all the entities from one end of this valley to the other. This behavior by the city of Sun Valley is embarrassing and extremely damaging to our resort economy that is currently struggling severely to survive.
It is always a bad thing when elected officials begin to think they are the “king”!
Maybe the solution is for Sun Valley Co. to annex with the city of Ketchum and simply let the city of Sun Valley fade away, becoming just a property management firm. Many of these officials I have considered as friends over the years. I can only hope everyone will rise above the disaster and get some work done!
