Wood River High School’s varsity volleyball team firmed up its third-place spot in the Great Basin loop Tuesday with an important road win over the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks 27-25, 16-25, 25-16, 25-18.
“Our goal was to start strong and win the first game and make the adjustments needed so we could play our best,” said coach Tim Richards, whose team improved to 13-10 (4-2 league) before Thursday’s match at second-place Jerome (19-8, 4-1).
“Canyon Ridge came back to take the lead 25-24 in that first game, then Lily (Richards) had a kill and two serves, Mary (Petzke) had a block and Kori (Paradis) another block so we could win the first game 27-25.”
The coach said each Hailey girl had their best statistical match of the season and the team notched a season-high 41 kills. “We served 11 aces with Kori leading the way with five, Haley Cutler three in one game and Lily with two,” said coach Richards.
Other Wolverine statistics: Brittney Bradley (30 assists), Madi Hendrix (7 kills out of 16 attempts), Lily Richards (12 kills of 36 attempts), Paradis (14 kills out of 55 attempts) and Petzke (4 kills).
