Blaine County residents will face more rain and high water this week, which a county official said could pose hazards to children and pets.
According to the National Weather Service, the Big Wood River will reach flows of more than 4,000 cubic feet per second by this morning, April 27, rising just over a foot within 24 hours.
Chuck Turner, county disaster services coordinator, stated Thursday that minor flooding was likely in the Della View subdivision in west Hailey. The runoff is expected to slow over the weekend with cooling temperatures, resulting in lower water levels.
In addition to noting the potential property damage, Turner warns that pets and people could be in danger. The river is filled with debris, he said, which could be hazardous.
"These streams, under these conditions, are potentially dangerous to people and pets who venture into the water," Turner said in an email. "The water is extremely cold and should be avoided."
