Swimmers greet long course season in Boise

At Spring Fling Invitational


    The long course season started for coach Brian Galla-gher’s Sun Valley 5B swim team at the Boise YMCA Spring Fling Invitational May 16-18 at Boise’s West YMCA.
    Swimmers from Idaho, Colo-rado, Utah and Oregon com-peted in the season’s first 50-meter long course meet. Galla-gher brought 15 swimmers to the 24-team meet that attracted 450 youth for three days.
    Most SV5B swimmers posted significant personal-best times and many made the podium. SV5B welcomed Clara Harding to her first Snake River Swim-ming meet.
    In top form was Maddie Johnson (Women 15-and-over). She won 100 back, 100/200 fly and 1500 free.
    Also placing first for SV5B were Katherine Lemma (Women 15-and-over) in 50 free; Petra Glenn (Women 13-14) in her first competitive 1500 free; and Zach Deal (Men 13-14) in 50 back and 100 breast.
    Other podium visits:
    Kaedi Fry (Women 15-and-over) with second places in 100 breast, 200 and 400 I.M. and 1500 free, and third in 800 free; and Katherine Lemma second in 100 Free;
    Ashley Dreyfus (Women 15-and-over) second 50 fly and 200 breast; Maddie Johnson second in 400/800 free and 200 back; Zack Deal second in 200 breast; and Eva Carlson (Women 11-12) third 100 fly.
    Summer morning practice begins Monday, June 9 at 6:30 a.m. at Elkhorn’s Harker Cen-ter Pool. Gallagher takes the entire SV5B squad to Twin Falls for the Summer Heat June 21, followed by the Elko High Altitude Invitational, June 28-29.
    Other significant SV5B fin-ishes in the recent Boise meet:
    Men 13-14:  4—Mason Johnson 400 and 800 free, and Zack Deal 200 I.M. 5—Mason Johnson 100 free. 6—Zack Deal 50 free.
    Women 9-10: 5—Maggie Deal 100 Breast. 7—Maggie Deal 50 breast. 10—Elizabeth Clayton 200 free. 25—Emma Desserault 50 breast.
    Women 11-12:  4—Eva Carlson 50 fly and 100 breast. 12—Sara Clayton 50 back. 26—Cadence Campbell 200 free.
    Women 13-14:  8—Petra Glenn 800 Free. 9—Petra Glenn 200 free. 23—Kirsys Camp-bell 400 free. 14—Clara Harding 50 breast.
    Women 15-and-over: 9—Kaedi Fry 50 free. 5—Katherine Lemma 50 back, 200 I.M. and 800 free. 7—Ashley Dreyfus 50 back and 100 breast.
