BSU golfer Elliott scores IGA match play title

At the Valley Club

Boise State University freshman golfer David Elliott is the new Idaho Golf Association (IGA) men’s match play cham-pion.
Elliott won his fifth match in three days by beating Boise’s 35-year-old Jesse Hibler 2&1 in the championship match Sun-day at The Valley Club in Hai-ley.
Having attended high school at Cole Valley Christian in Boise, Elliott competed in golf at Boise’s Centennial High School. He placed second indi-vidually in the State 5A golf meet at Pinecrest Golf Course in Idaho Falls in May 2012. The previous year, he was the IGA Junior Golfer of the Year.
In his Valley Club matches, Elliott defeated Tristen Bessey 8&7, won 5&4 over Alec John-son, beat Bishop Kelly’s State 4A runner-up Hunter Ostrom 3&2 and in the semi-final, took care of Colby Dean 6&4. Dean was part of four State 5A state title teams at Eagle High.
Hibler reached the final with a 2-up semi-final victory over Lee Reed in the 32-golfer field.
Also Sunday in Hailey, Weiser’s colorful Joe Malay won the IGA Senior Men’s match play title over Rod Skyles of Meridian in a 10-golfer field of seniors. Bob Lutz was a semi-finalist.
Notable qualifying rounds were Alec Johnson 76 and Dan Pickens 80 in Senior Men’s.
