The St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation board of directors and the Harvey Gray Family has awarded the 2014 Carl A. Gray Memorial Award for nursing excellence to Correy Shanahan of Hailey.
Shanahan is the clinical supervisor of the Medical-Surgical Unit at St. Luke’s Wood River. Shanahan’s peers describe her as “creative, compassionate, organized, engaged, a thoughtful communicator and an outstanding instructor,” a foundation news release states.
“Correy exemplifies compassion and has an exceptional nursing practice,” said Megan Thomas, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation chief development officer. “We are truly fortunate to have such high caliber nurses at St. Luke’s Wood River.”
Each year, the entire hospital staff may nominate a nurse who exemplifies excellence in their nursing practice. The nursing staff then votes on the colleague whom they believe is most deserving of the recognition. The Gray family established the annual award in the foundation to honor Carl A. Gray, who was an avid Sun Valley Ski Club member.
Awards were also given for distinction in specific areas of the “St. Luke’s core values.” Those honorees include Connie Connell for integrity; Donna Wright for compassion; Joanna Peters for accountability; and Janet Barton for respect.
Shanahan was nominated for the award along with 16 of her peers. The 2014 nominees included Connell, Barton, Wright, Peters, Angela Brady, Susan DeChevrieux, Amy Downey, Stephanie Hayes, Sue Henry, Leith Lickteig, Kerry Renner, Alison Smart, Lynne Wade, Laurie Williams, Etta Wood and Susan Woodruff.
