The Blaine County School District is now accepting applications for the formation of a financial advisory committee, which the district is referring to as a FAC. Formation of the FAC was approved by the school board earlier this year.
Formation of a FAC has been advocated by some district patrons for several years. Requests became more frequent when litigation started in May 2012 between the district and its energy contractor, McKinstry Essention.
Anyone interested in applying for the FAC can find an application at the district website at www.blaineschools.org. Start with the “Departments” tab and then go to the “Finance” page. The application can be found in the menu there.
Announcement of the acceptance of applications came in a district press release issued Monday.
FAC meetings will be subject to Idaho open meeting laws, including timely agenda postings and participation by the public.
According to the plan approved by the school board in January, the FAC will be an advisory committee only and will not make financial or policy decisions or be involved in staff management.
The district is looking for at least five community members, with one to be appointed by each of the district trustees. The plan provides that additional members can be appointed by the board as a whole if the board deems it necessary.
Appointments will be for a one-year term for a maximum of three years.
In addition to community members, the plan states that the FAC will be comprised of a teacher or other staff member, one school administrator, the district business manager and either the district superintendent or assistant superintendent.
The district plans that the FAC will meet regularly throughout a school year. FAC meetings will be subject to Idaho open meeting laws, including timely agenda postings and participation by the public.
