Gold medalists Davis, White due at ice show

Gold and Wagner, too

Sun Valley Resort has announced the first headliners on the 2014 summer schedule for the Sun Valley on Ice shows—and the schedule features some prominent Americans from the recent Sochi Winter Olympics.

Foremost is the Olympic gold medalist ice dancing team of Meryl Davis and Charlie White, scheduled for the Aug. 23 show.

Reigning national champion Gracie Gold headlines the July 4 Independence Day show, and 2012-13 national queen Ashley Wagner is due back Aug. 9.

Davis, 27, and White, 26, both from Michigan and a team since 1997, became the first American ice dancers to win a world championship in 2011 and repeated the world title in 2013. In February at Sochi, they became the first U.S. team to win the Olympic ice dancing gold medal.

Their Olympic performance scored the highest number of points ever made in ice dancing. Since then, they have appeared on the Dancing with the Stars television show.

Gold, 18, a Massachusetts native, won this year’s national title, her first, and placed fifth in the World Championships in Japan. At the Olympics she shared the team bronze medal and placed fourth in women’s singles.

Wagner, 22, who also trains in California, also won the Olympic team skating bronze medal at Sochi.

Also due to perform this summer, at the Aug. 30 and Sept. 7 shows, is 2010 Olympic men’s singles gold medalist Evan Lysacek, 28, from Illinois. The two-time Olympian won the 2009 world title and was national men’s gold medalist in 2007-08.

The series of nine Sun Valley on Ice performances runs from July 4 through Sept. 7, every show on Saturday evenings except for the Friday, July 4 holiday opener and the Sunday, Sept. 7 Labor Day season finale.

Tickets go on sale May 15.
