Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Snowboard Team riders continued to post solid results at this week’s United States of American Snowboard Association (USASA) national championships in Colorado.
In Breaker Boys (ages 12-13) snowboard halfpipe, Elk Spencer of Hailey finished sixth of 57 competitors in his big class with a 71.33 score after recording a 37th-place finish in the slopestyle competition.
Spencer was this year’s “Most Improved” award winner in the Big Mountain West series of winter races.
Perhaps the busiest of all SVSEF riders at nationals has been Jack Verhaeghe in Grommet Boys (8-9). Starting nationals with 11th in snowboard giant slalom and 30th in snowboard slopestyle, Verhaeghe was 16th of 36 riders in boardercross and then placed seventh overall of 26 in his class in Wednesday’s slalom.
Other SVSEF results included: Clara Jenner 11th in Snowboard Girls (12-13) Rail Jam; and Zoe Bacca 22nd snowboard halfpipe and 24th boardercross in Menehune Girls 10-11.
Clyde Montgomery of the SVSEF, not among the six local riders at nationals, won the Big Mountain West series “Sportsmanship Award.”
