Youngsters eligible to attend kindergarten or preschool the coming school year can register in the Blaine County School District on Wednesday, April 2.
The only exception is preschoolers at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum, who can register on April 9. Otherwise, kindergarten or preschool students for Bellevue, Hailey or Woodside elementary schools can register from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on April 2 at the Community Campus on Fox Acres Road in Hailey.
Kindergartners at Hemingway Elementary School can register at the school from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 2. Hemingway preschoolers can register from 8:30 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. on April 9.
Students entering kindergarten must be age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2014. Preschoolers need to be 4 on or before the same date.
Several documents are required for registration, including a state-certified birth certificate.
Also, both kindergarteners and preschoolers are required to provide proof of immunizations. Idaho immunization requirements can be found at http://healthandwelfare.idaho.gov.
If a child needs immunizations, contact the child’s primary health care provider or the South Central Public Health District at (208) 788-4335.
In addition to proof of immunizations, parents must also provide proof that the children reside in Blaine County. Documentation can include two current utility bills or written proof of utility service or a lease agreement indicating utilities are paid through the lease. The documents must include the name and physical address in Blaine County.
In addition to those documents, parents are required to provide one of the following documents, all of which much show a current Blaine County residence: either a valid Idaho driver’s license or state identification card, a property tax bill, a current lease agreement, a notarized affidavit signed and sworn from a current landlord or homeowner, or an Idaho tax return.
A child’s daycare information is also required, which will be used to determine the school of attendance if a child will be riding a bus.
Parents of preschoolers should also have income verification in the form of a 2013 federal tax return for both parents. Preschool programs are tuition-based, using a sliding fee scale. Also, space for preschool is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Approximately 80 spaces are available.
The School District offers full-day kindergarten and half-day preschool. Kindergarteners are also eligible to sign up for the district Dual Immersion program, where instruction is provided in both English and Spanish. A lottery is held if the number of Dual Immersion registrants exceeds the program capacity.
Additional information is available at the district website at www.blaineschools.org or at the district office at (208) 578-5000.
