The Claremont Trio features Emily Bruskin on violin, Julia Bruskin on cello and Andrea Lam on piano.
The Sun Valley Artists Series, now its fifth season, will commence a series of classical music concerts in the Wood River Valley this winter at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, with a performance by the Claremont Trio.
The performance—at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum—will feature works by Mozart, Fauré and Brahms. This will be the second visit to the valley by this talented piano trio from New York. Their performance in Sun Valley last year was a sold out.
The Claremont Trio features Emily Bruskin on violin, Julia Bruskin on cello and Andrea Lam on piano. The Claremont Trio is widely regarded as the premier piano trio of their generation. The Boston Globe wrote, “They play with passion, precision, and power.” The Cincinnati Enquirer said, “Their exuberant performance and gutsy repertoire … is the kind of fresh approach that keeps chamber music alive.”
The three women were the first winners of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award and the only piano trio ever to win the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. During the 2012-13 season, the Claremont Trio performed at prestigious venues including Chamber Music Cincinnati, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society, Duke Performances, the Chamber Music Society of Bethlehem and New York’s Lincoln Center.
The Claremont Trio was formed in 1999 at the Juilliard School. Twin sisters Emily and Julia Bruskin grew up in Cambridge, Mass., and they both play old French instruments. Emily’s violin is a Lupot from 1795; Julia’s cello is a J.B. Vuillaume from 1849. Andrea Lam grew up in Sydney, Australia. The Claremonts are all now based in New York City near their namesake, Claremont Avenue.
The concert will be preceded at 6:15 p.m. by an informal “Meet the Artists” onstage interview hosted by Sun Valley Artist Series Artistic Director Susan Gannon.
In order to make their concerts and educational programs accessible to schools, to those who are unable to attend the live performances, and for anyone living outside the area, the Sun Valley Artist Series will be live streaming its events this season, with access available on its website.
Tickets for the 2013-2014 season are now on sale online at www.svartistseries.org and at Ketchum bookstores. Adult tickets cost $24 and student tickets are $10. Music students, music teachers and those with financial need who wish to attend are admitted free to all ticketed events (please call ahead for reservations).
The Sun Valley Artist Series is an Idaho nonprofit organization devoted to the promotion and encouragement of the art of classical music.
