New businesses are coming to the cities of Hailey and Bellevue, marking what could be a resurgence of sorts in the local economy.
Real estate agent Paul Kenny said there is now less commercial real estate available in Hailey than there was last year.
“Activity is increasing, both in the light-industrial area in Airport West and in Woodside,” he said. “This is usually a reflection of the [building] trades picking up again.”
Hailey Community Development Director Micah Austin said a Papa Murphy’s Take ’n Bake Pizza chain store will soon open at 151 N. Main Street, in one of several buildings on a block-long commercial site called Bullion Square. The unit, which formerly housed Tony’s Dollar Store, has been vacant for about one year.
Papa Murphy’s will be the fourth pizza option in Hailey. The city has a Domino’s Pizza chain store, as well as locally grown restaurants Wiseguy Pizza Pie and McClain’s Pizzeria. The Papa Murphy’s store has no seating and no commercial cooking area.
“It’s like a Subway for pizza, but you take it home to cook,” Austin said.
Elsewhere in town, Sheri Thomas’ Boulder Mountain Property Management is moving from a home-based business into commercial space above Domino’s Pizza in Alturas Plaza.
Smiles for Kids pediatric dentistry is soon moving into offices at 317 South River St.
The city of Bellevue has seen a significant increase in commercial activity since mid-summer, including the opening of the Richard Sample art gallery at 112 S. Main St., and 5B Roofing, FMTZ Construction, Alternative Color painting and K&S Engineering.
The Shop, an automotive repair center, also opened at 601 S. Main St.
Miss Betty’s Little Sunshine Daycare, at 308 S. Main St. in Bellevue, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m.
Planning director Craig Eckles said several other high-profile businesses are set to finalize real estate deals in Bellevue within the next few weeks.
“Development services is working with businesses moving into Bellevue which would provide lodging, a restaurant and retail hardware clothing,” Eckles said.
