An 84-year-old Blaine County man escaped serious injury when his car collided with a semi-truck Monday afternoon on U.S. Highway 20 about six miles east of Timmerman Junction.
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Milton D. Fife. Sheriff’s Capt. Curtis Miller said Fife declined to be transported from the scene of the crash.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Miller said Fife was westbound in a gold 2001 Cadillac Seville when he attempted to make a U-turn on the highway.
Also westbound was a white 2014 Volvo tractor pulling double Shopko vans. Miller said the driver, Jimmie Wayne Grist, 68, of Meridian, pulled into the eastbound lane to avoid a major crash. Instead, only the passenger side rear tires on the second van collided with the Fife vehicle’s front corner on the passenger side.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Miller said. “The truck driver did a pretty good job of getting out of the way.”
Miller said both drivers were wearing seatbelts. He said the accident remained under investigation on Tuesday.
