In furtherance of the “Lock your Meds” campaign, I would like to suggest an inexpensive add-on to the educational-consciousness-raising aspect already being put in place. Most apartments, condos and residences do not have a lockable-drawer-safe medicine cabinet. A key lock—while not absolute protection against theft of prescription medication—would certainly present a significant barrier to the extraction of meds from the ordinary medicine cabinet. (A lock box, not bolted down, is easily taken in tow.) I am wondering if our county’s building codes might allow for the small modification of such a locking drawer as a building requirement on all new residences. It might add no more than $20 to the construction costs.
Blaine County might then lead the nation in providing this needed advance.
