Critters get closer to God
By WILLY COOK
St. Thomas Episcopal Church held its annual pet blessing service Sunday in Sun Valley following its regular church services. Cats, dogs and donkeys arrived on leashes, in travel containers and in the arms of loving owners to be blessed by either the Right Reverend Brian Thom, the Reverend Ken Brannon or the Reverend John Moreland. All the pets seemed to get along, including Agnes, an old English bulldog puppy, and Romeo, an adult pug, while Melissa Lee’s cat Ceecee sang along with the choir. Counterclockwise from top, Corey Graham holds a shelter dog, Missy, while Brannon administers a blessing inspired by St. Thomas of Assisi, the acknowledged patron saint of animals; Leslie Howa gets her 6-year-old Boston terrier, Veera, blessed by Thom, the bishop of the Diocese of Idaho; and with a smile, Brannon blesses one of two donkeys that Sandra Willingham brought to the event.
