LOT for air will help community

The new airline flights that will be serving our community this winter and in 2014 will greatly improve opportunities for visitors to come to the valley. The timing of these new flights makes it very important to vote in favor of the 1 percent increase to the local option tax, called the LOT.
These new flights are great opportunities that, if we don’t seize them now, can vanish. Just like the San Francisco flight, the new grant that will secure a flight from Denver (or another target city) is a one-year deal. To keep these new services, we need a dedicated fund that allows us to build on these successes.
It is also critical to do the necessary marketing that will make these new non-stop flights a success for tourism. The LOT funds will allow us to do that. A healthy part of the LOT is slated for use in marketing new and existing flights. It makes sense to do this now, to secure the future of tourism and our local economy.
With these initial agreements funded and in place, the LOT will be a home run for our economic future. Please join me in supporting the future of small business and the many jobs associated with those businesses in our community by voting for the LOT.
