Since it was established more than 20 years ago, I’ve painted, walked, fished, kayaked, swam and played at the Hulen Meadows Pond.
I’ve observed eagles, ospreys, otters, beavers and muskrat using the pond. Everyday activity abounds. All of this would not be possible without the pond.
The pond needs to be dredged. It should have been done 10 years ago, but nobody would come forward with the money.
We support the efforts of Mayor Randy Hall and the River Park Committee in trying to find a workable solution for the pond and its users.
In 1991, when a pond was first suggested, Hulen Meadows residents were initially anxious and fearful about the idea. “Too many people and cars. It’ll destroy the quiet!” Today, those same naysayers are using the pond, referring to the pond as “our pond.”
We encourage anyone who loves the pond to come forward and write their feelings to the Idaho Mountain Express.
