Since so many advocates for the airline subsidy keep saying that the residents won’t notice the doubling of taxes, I would like to propose a solution to end all of this bickering. Change the wording of the proposed LOT increase to propose a bed or occupancy tax, only. In that way, the residents are guaranteed not to notice the tax.
Such a tax is used in many other places, and I do not know why we should be any different. To me, that seems like a logical solution. The advocates don't care if the tax is paid by the tourists; in fact they have argued that the tourists would be paying the tax. I don't see how the advocates can be against that.
