Butte County authorities released the name Thursday of a Boise woman whose body was found Wednesday in a lava field at the Craters of the Moon National Monument east of Carey.
The Associated Press reported that authorities said 63-year-old Jo Elliot-Blakeslee, a physician, appeared to have died from exposure.
Meanwhile, the search continued at the monument Thursday for Elliot-Blakeslee’s companion, 70-year-old Amy Linkert, also of Boise.
The two women were reported missing Monday and a search was started Tuesday. KTVB reported that about 40 people were involved and that Civil Air Patrol pilots and two Idaho Army National Guard helicopters searched a remote part of the monument by air.
KTVB further reported that the search was focused on a five square-mile area on the south end of the monument, near where the women’s pickup was found at Tree Molds Trail.
Authorities believe the women became lost and do not suspect foul play.
