Hailey Salutes Work Done During Fire
Hailey Mayor Fritz Haemmerle, left, offers a handshake of thanks to firefighter Vaughn Palmer Monday, in a ceremony in which the city recognized employees for their efforts during the Beaver Creek Fire. Palmer represented the Hailey Fire Department, giving an account of the firefighting efforts. He spoke of the firestorm they encountered in Greenhorn Gulch, in which they battled flames in 40-50 mph winds while protecting homes from the flames. Palmer said it was the “most intense fire behavior I’ve seen in 24 years.”
