North Gem invades Carey Friday for football

JV and varsity games

Coming off its 30-6 non-conference loss at Notus last  Friday, the Carey High School football team (0-1) is looking forward to its first home game of the season Friday, Sept. 6 against North Gem’s Cowboys (0-1) from Bancroft.

The junior varsity game begins at 4 p.m. and the varsity contest at 7 p.m. at Derrick Parke Memorial Field. North Gem dropped its opening game 28-20 at home to Grace Friday.

Notus (1-0) led only 8-0 at halftime Friday night, as Carey senior Tori Alvarez had a long touchdown run called back by a holding penalty just before halftime. Alvarez scored Carey’s TD on a third-quarter run covering three yards cutting the Notus lead to 22-8.

Carey coach Lane Kirkland  said, “I thought the kids played hard. They were really mentally tough for as young as they are. And our defense did a nice job against a Notus team that had eight seniors and was pretty physical. We’ll improve as we go along this season.”

In other games Friday, Dietrich won 54-6 at Shoshone, Richfield beat Sho-Ban 60-0, Raft River took care of Castleford 48-0, Lighthouse Christian romped 36-6 over Murtaugh, Hagerman won 67-18 over Rockland and Butte County defeated Calvary Chapel 32-14.
