Prep soccer games ready to roll

Home game for WRHS girls Monday

After a week filled with pre-season practice time changes due to the Beaver Creek Fire, Wood River Valley high school soccer teams are poised to begin their 2013 fall campaigns.

The Community School of Sun Valley had to make a couple of changes because the first three home games for coach Richard Whitelaw’s boys and coach Kelly Feldman’s girls had been scheduled for this weekend on Sagewillow fields.

Instead of hosting its season-opening non-conference doubleheader, Whitelaw’s boys are traveling to McCall-Donnelly north of Boise for games today, Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m.

Faced with similar problems as Whitelaw in rounding up enough players for practices because of displaced families, Feldman decided that the Cutthroat girls won’t be playing McCall and will instead debut against Buhl next week.

High Desert Soccer Conference games against Buhl, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27 in Sun Valley, will instead be played in Buhl Tuesday, the girls at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.

Wood River High activities and athletic director John Rade said that the season-opening Wolverine boys’ and girls’ soccer games against Highland of Pocatello Monday, Aug. 26 will be played as scheduled.

The Wolverine girls’ varsity plays Highland Monday at 4:30 p.m. followed by the junior varsity game. The Wood River boys will travel to Pocatello Monday for 4:30 p.m.  (varsity) and 6:30 p.m. (junior varsity) non-conference games.
