The Idaho Transportation Department reported that traffic will be shifted on state Highway 75 this week to accommodate temporary widening of the road south of Hospital Drive. Also, this week, ITD plans to construct a concrete retaining wall on the east side of the highway near the former Dean Tire location.
On June 3, paving of a widened portion of the highway near Hospital Drive is scheduled to start and the highway contractor will begin removal of some buildings in the same area.
The work is being performed by Idaho Sand & Gravel Co., of Jerome, to widen a 3.25-mile section of the highway between Timber Way just north of East Fork Road and the bridge over the Big Wood River near St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center.
ITD reported that the majority of the work so far has been focused on utility relocations throughout the work zone. Also, the contractor has started to clear areas of the right of way where a temporary roadway will be built to accommodate two lanes of traffic throughout the construction zone.
The work is expected to continue throughout the summer and fall and possibly into 2014.
