Rotarun Ski Area three miles west of Hailey is hosting its “Bikes, Burgers & Beer” open house for the public Sunday, May 19 at Rotarun located out Croy Creek Road past the Animal Shelter.
The open house is designed to introduce new Rotarun board members, to raise funds, and to announce that Rotarun is now the designated parking area for the Nadya’s Trail.
Rotarun Ski Area, a non-profit organization, will unveil itself as the host for Croy Canyon cycling at Sunday’s event. The designation of Rotarun as the official parking area for Nadya’s Trail is intended to alleviate traffic concerns caused by parking at the loop at the end of Rodeo Drive.
Cyclists and hikers can gather trail information placed at the new Rotarun kiosk, and take advantage of a new bike pump provided by Sun Summit South, and a bike work stand provided by Wesley Deklotz.
Participants in Sunday’s ride can cycle the gentle-to-challenging trails of Croy Canyon in groups or individually. Biking starts at the Rotarun parking lot at 4 p.m., with food service starting at 5:30 p.m.
After the ride, participants can indulge in burgers and beer on the Rotarun deck, while they regale each other with stories of cycling’s challenges and satisfactions.
Rotarun board members will provide information about Rotarun programs and how to get involved with the organization.
The Rotarun Ski Area fundraiser costs $20 for an adult and $5 per child (15-and-under). The actual cycling is not required. Supporters can purchase a ticket for the dinner only.
Rotarun season passes for the 2013-14 ski season will be on sale Sunday.
“We want the larger community to see what a wonderful resource they have here in Rotarun,” said new board president Jesse Foster. “We plan to do more partnering with valley businesses and organizations to make Rotarun even more successful.”
Sponsors of “Bike, Burgers & Beer” include Sun Summit South, Grumpy’s, Sun Valley Brewery and Albertson’s.
New Rotarun board officers are president Jesse Foster, vice president Craig Johnson, treasurer Donny McQuary and secretary Mike Landis.
Rounding out the 2013 Rotarun board of directors list are Joan Davies, Fritz Haemmerle, Troy Thayer, Jeff Smith and Jack Hill.
