A 21-year-old Hailey man has been charged with two felonies for an alleged sexual incident with a 15-year-old girl.
Jose Luis Ruiz-Santiago was formally charged with the crimes of sexual abuse of a minor and battery with intent to commit a serious felony at an initial appearance Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. Hailey attorney Cheri Hicks was appointed public defender. Ruiz-Santiago was released from the Blaine County jail later Monday after posting $15,000 bond.
Hailey police allege that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 27. They were notified of the alleged crimes by the parents of the girl at about 11 p.m. that evening.
“This is a family friend,” Hailey Assistant Police Chief Dave Stellers said of the defendant. “He’s known them for a few years. On the 27th, he was playing around with the girl and allegedly touched her inappropriately a few times.”
Stellers said that after interviewing the family Ruiz-Santiago was arrested without incident.
