Blaine County commissioners will kick off their budgeting process today, May 1, by hearing a series of funding requests from Blaine County organizations.
Typically, the county holds two types of budget hearings: those from internal departments, such as the Sheriff’s Office or Blaine County Land Use and Building Services, and those from external organizations, such as Sustain Blaine economic development group or the Senior Connection in Hailey.
County records show that for fiscal year 2013, Blaine County budgeted about $365,500 to outside agencies.
Today’s budget hearings begin at 10 a.m. at the Old Blaine County Courthouse in Hailey. The commissioners will hear requests from eight organizations before adjourning at 2:15 p.m. Hearings will last 20 minutes each, and the commissioners will break from noon to 1:30 p.m. for lunch.
The list of organizations requesting funding today is as follows:
- St. Luke’s Center for Community Health, with manager Erin Pfaeffle.
- Fly Sun Valley Alliance, with Executive Director Carol Waller.
- Blaine County Community Drug Coalition, with Executive Director Michael David.
- Sawtooth Snowmobile Club, with spokeswoman Steph Eisenbarth.
- South Central Community Action Partnership, with Executive Director Ken Robinette.
- Defenders of Wildlife, with spokeswoman Suzanne Stone.
- Hunger Coalition, with Executive Director Jeanne Liston.
- Blaine County Fair Board, with spokeswoman Amy Federko.
Fly Sun Valley Alliance did not receive funding from Blaine County last year.
Budget hearings for outside organizations, including Mountain Rides, will continue on Wednesday, May 8.
