Camp Rainbow Gold will live on

By KRIS CRONIN and ROB CRONIN

For 14 years we have had the distinct honor of volunteering on behalf of Camp Rainbow Gold in many ways, but most notably through the founding of the Share Your Heart Ball, the annual fundraising gala to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold. This year, albeit with heavy hearts, we were pleased to announce our successors, local couple Stephanie and Al McCord, as the new volunteer co-chairs of the Share Your Heart Ball.  We passed the torch with the same great momentum and passion that has fueled this event for so many years.
Recently, it was announced that the American Cancer Society (parent organization of Camp Rainbow Gold) would no longer be supporting the program. We want to assure our friends, families, volunteers, donors and supporters that this does not mean Camp Rainbow Gold has folded. In fact, Camp Rainbow Gold is still going strong and thriving. Camp Rainbow Gold is currently applying for independent nonprofit (501c3) status and will continue as a private entity to remain for many years to come a resource, support network, college scholarship program and camp for Idaho children diagnosed with cancer and their families.
A core volunteer board has been formed to advise on all aspects of the new nonprofit and we will both take active, yet different roles on contributing to this process. It is important to both of us that Camp Rainbow Gold thrive during this new and exciting transition. That is why we are calling on you—the amazing Wood River Valley—to help spread the word and ensure the future success of Camp Rainbow Gold.
As this new journey takes shape, rest assured that Camp Rainbow Gold is here to stay. That being said, this community has always been there with undying support and it is needed now more than ever. So, whatever the word “support” may mean to you, whether through spreading this message, financial contributions, volunteering time or resources, or simply through love, Camp Rainbow Gold can sure use your help.
This organization has impacted us both so deeply from day one. We feel it is critical that our valley realize the greater impact this organization has made and will continue to make on our communities and Idaho families affected by childhood cancer and take action to ensure its survival. Camp Rainbow Gold is here to stay and the Wood River Valley is going to lead the way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
