A 42-year-old Sun Valley man has been charged with two felonies for allegedly committing sex crimes last weekend against a 9-year-old girl.
Mark C. Peterson was formally charged with the crimes of video voyeurism and sexual abuse of a minor under 16 at an initial court appearance Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. Judge R. Ted Israel set bond at $100,000. Peterson remained incarcerated in the Blaine County jail on Tuesday.
Hailey attorney Cheri Hicks was appointed public defender and a preliminary hearing was set for April 23.
In a news release, Ketchum police reported that the alleged incident occurred at Giacobbi Square in Ketchum shortly after 8 a.m. on Saturday when Peterson followed the girl into a downstairs public restroom.
“The 9-year-old girl reported to police she saw Peterson peek under the stall while she was using the restroom,” the news release states. “She quickly ran out of the restroom and told her parents.”
Police arrived on the scene almost immediately since the police station is only a block away. Peterson was still at the scene and was questioned and arrested.
Police confiscated Peterson’s smart phone and further allege that he used it to take video of the girl while she was in the restroom.
The news release also states that Peterson is from Eugene, Ore., and only recently came to the Sun Valley area looking for employment.
