Sports summary


All-Conference hoops picks for 1A schools

Carey High School senior Jordan Dilworth and sophomore Nate Adamson were two of the five All-Conference boys’ basketball first-team picks from 4th District 1A Division 2 ranks announced last week.

Joining the Panther pair on the first team for the 2012-13 season were Kayden Power of Dietrich, Will Kline of Castleford and Eli Berndt of Lighthouse Christian Academy.

Second team—Vance Perron, Jacob Dalton and Trey Dill of Dietrich; Erik Helman of Lighthouse; Davey Knowlton of Camas County; and Troy Baynes of Murtaugh.

Coach of the Year was Dietrich’s Wayne Dill, who guided the Blue Devils to their first Northside Conference tournament title since 1992 and the State 1A Division 2 tourney consolation championship.

Honorable mention picks were: Sheldon Hansen of Carey; Taylor Adler of the Community School; Isaac Simon of Camas County; Logan Porter and Antonio Aguilar of Dietrich; Coy Surrett and Ty Zimmers of Castleford; Zak Wood and Jeff Henson of Richfield; and Ridge Reid, Luc Fadness, Garrett Lee and Jake Millenkamp of Lighthouse Christian Academy.

Dietrich’s Charley Bingham was “Player of the Year” on the Idaho Statesman’s 1A Division 2 All-Idaho team. Adamson made the Statesman’s boys’ first team, as did Kendra McConnell and Jacey Shaw of Dietrich, while Jaide Parke of Carey made the second team.

 

Human slalom, Tandem Telemark Challenge at Hawaiian Nationals

Sun Valley Tele is holding its end-of-the-season Hawaiian Nationals spring event on Baldy Saturday, March 30, sponsored by Scott Sports.

Registration is Saturday from 9-11 a.m, at Warm Springs Lodge with racing beginning at 12 noon on Lower Warm Springs. Each competitor will be given two timed laps on the dual slalom course. A discounted Sun Valley lift ticket will be available to all competitors with a race number. Snowboarders are welcome.

Don’t miss the phenomenon known as the Tandem Telemark Challenge—two people on one pair of skis. Also, all are encouraged to join the Human Slalom down Lower Warm Springs Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Organizers said Sun Valley Tele has lots of schwag to give away—ski gear from title sponsor Scott Sports, tele bindings from 22 Designs, outerwear from Flylow, eyewear from Smith Optics and more. For details contact sunvalleytele@gmail.com.

 

Sign up for BCRD spring track and field

The Blaine County Recreation District is now accepting applications for its three-week spring track and field program for boys and girls in grades 1-5, and grades 6-8. Cost is $35 per person ($25 at Carey School). The after-school weekday program culminates in the Blaine County/Hershey track meet Saturday, May 4 at Derrick Parke Memorial Field in Carey.

Practices begin Monday, April 15 for kids at Ketchum’s Hemingway Elementary School and Hailey’s Woodside Elementary, plus Carey School. Students at Bellevue Elementary School start practices Tuesday, April 16. Visit bcrd.org for updated information.

 

Barking Spider Bash mountain bike racing is April 6

Wild Rockies Racing has announced its 18th annual Barking Spider Bash cross-country mountain bike races for Saturday, April 6 at the Hemingway Butte area in Murphy, Idaho south of Mountain Home on the south side of the Snake River.

A qualifying event for the U.S. National Mountain Bike Championships, the 2013 Wild Rockies season opener features the largest Olympic format off-road XC bike race of the year. There will be trail running (10-kilometer and 9.2 miles) at 9 a.m., with the bike races of up to 27 miles at 12:30 p.m. Cost varies from $20 to $40. Big Nasty Hill Climb this weekend

Organizer Ron Dillon (208-573-4255) has announced Round 1 of the Northwest Hill Climb Series. It’s the 2013 World’s Steepest Hill Climb, one of Idaho’s largest motorcycle events planned for Saturday and Sunday, March 30-31 starting at 9 a.m. each day at the Owyhee Motorcycle Club Grounds near Boise. New to the event are 4-wheeler classes. Register on site Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are Stock Bike Trophy Classes plus Pro Classes (Sunday). Visit bignastyhillclimb.com.
