Celebrating sun

Great music all around

Christian Bauhofer attended his first concerts around Minnesota as a 7-year-old getting in with his guitar-playing dad. Didn’t matter who was playing, but by the time he was 12, he knew he wanted to be in a band. And then he didn’t, and that is how “Minnesota” the DJ was born.
“I started to really like the idea of one person doing everything, relying solely on oneself,” he said last week. “Basically, I’d been doing a lot of tours and gotten a little following and I wanted to do a good, solid, no-headliner show.”
At 23, Minnesota spent his time touring with acts such as Big Gigantic and Paper Diamond while artists like Bassnectar and PANTyRAID have been incorporating his tracks into their sets.
His latest goal, he explained, “is to make bass-heavy dubstep/glitch-hop music that’ll get you dancing, but is not the same old, three-note transformer step. I try to focus more on the melodic side of dubstep, and, hopefully, make quality songwriting a more relevant factor in the genre.”
His Eternal Frequencies Tour, featuring Minnesota with Protohype and Dcarls, stops in Ketchum, Friday, March 8, at Whiskey Jacques’. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door.
The tour was sold out in Tahoe and Reno last week, so he’s excited to try his act out on some new towns.
“If you want to come experience a cool show and a diverse show in bass more on the melodic side,” he said. “This is a great show.”
If Hailey is where you will be on Thursday, March 7, The B-Side Players will be back at the Sun Valley Brewery, $5 cover, on Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m. The Blackberry Bushes string band, a Seattle-based, award-winning alt-folk band that has recently toured across the U.S. and Europe, will play free. The band won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s bluegrass band award and won the RockyGrass Band Competition.
Tony Furtado will perform a last-minute concert at Mahoney’s Bar and Grill in Bellevue on Saturday, March 9, at 8 p.m. This event has no cover charge.
