Kids eager for Kindercup, will remember Alice

Papoose Club ski races Sunday on Dollar

Not only will the 57th annual Kindercup alpine ski races on Sunday, March 10 provide some great fun for kids ages 3-12 on Dollar Mountain, the Papoose Club will honor all the contributions of the late Alice Schernthanner of Ketchum.

Schernthanner, who died last year, spent 25 years with the Sun Valley Ski School as both as an instructor and Children’s Program Supervisor. The lifetime Papoose Club member was closely identified with the organization of the Kindercup and essentially ran the event for many years.

Check-in and registration Sunday at Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge occurs from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Races begin at 10:15 a.m. The awards ceremony begins about 12:30 p.m. Participants and even their parents are encouraged to wear costumes.

Best of all, the Kindercup is free. It is open to all non-sanctioned racers, both ski and snowboard.

Pre-register through today, Wednesday, March 6 at Formula Sports in Ketchum, Sturtevants in Ketchum and Hailey, Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge and Atkinson Park in Ketchum. Be sure to download the entry form at papooseclub.org.

Event sponsors include Sun Valley Company, Power Engineers, Smith Optics, US Bank, Clif Bar and Papoose Club, with invaluable assistance from the Dollar Mountain Race Department and Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation coaching staff.

The fun, community event takes much participation. To volunteer, contact Louise Isaacs at 720-5931.
