Squirts win twice at Utah’s Grizz Cup

The Sun Valley Squirts hockey team enjoys last weekend’s Grizz Cup tournament in Utah.

 

Sun Valley Youth Hockey’s Squirts squad (ages 9-10) went 2-2 and finished second in the six-team Squirts “B Division” during the Grizz Cup hockey tournament Jan. 19-20 at Salt Lake City, Utah.

The young Suns won their first two games 8-0 and 3-2 over Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Moose and Davis Wind of Utah before losing to the Colorado Eagles 6-1 in the championship game.

Squirts’ weekend scorers: Deke Burrell (3 goals/0 assists), Alex Daves (2/0), Seamus O’Connell (2/0), Huck Sprong (1/1), Fletcher Stumph (1/1), Slater Whitehead (1/0), Alex Lengyel (1/0), Ryder Sarchett (1/0) and Ashton Tanner (0/1). Goalie Dakota Davis made 52 saves over the four games.

( Sun Valley’s PeeWee (11-12) home tournament is Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 for six teams at Sun Valley Skating Center. Sun Valley plays Saturday at 9:45 a.m. against Salmon, 1:30 p.m. against Park City (Utah) and 5:15 p.m. against Jackson Hole (Wyo.).
