Sofi Leroux aces Jackson Hole GS

SVSEF winner in FIS tech finale

Community School student Sofi Leroux, a newcomer to the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s alpine ski racing team, took a little time warming up to this week’s courses at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

The 18-year-old from West Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club placed 11th of 45 women in Saturday’s slalom and eighth overall among the gals in the 47-gate slalom course Sunday.

Leroux, whose 16-year-old brother Marc Leroux was among the 14-racer SVSEF contingent on the Wyoming hill, placed among the top 10 in the U-21 class each day in the International Ski Federation (FIS) slaloms.

Competing Monday in her favorite discipline, giant slalom, Sofi Leroux made a move onto the podium in third place of 43 finishers—clocking the second-best first run. Then she showed up big time Tuesday in the final race of the FIS series.

Leroux won both runs of the women’s GS and finished 1.10 seconds ahead of the next-best racer for her first win as an SVSEF contestant. Her teammate Linnea Baysinger made the U-18 podium in third place.
