Man stable after hit-and-run accident

Police looking for driver of vehicle with California plates

A 39-year-old Ketchum man was listed in stable condition Tuesday at St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center after being injured late Friday night in what Ketchum police described as a “vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run accident.”

Police reported Monday that Benjamin B. Charles was initially in critical condition when taken to the hospital shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday.

Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle, described as a 2003 Toyota Tundra with California license plates, that allegedly ran over Charles on Fourth Street.

Ketchum Police Chief Steve Harkins reported in a news release that a witness told investigators that Charles and the driver “were arguing and when the driver drove away Charles fell from the vehicle and his torso was run over by the rear tire.”

“KPD is in the process of identifying the driver of the vehicle and we have information that the two subjects knew one another,” Harkins reported. “KPD believes the driver is from California and was up here working on a construction project. He may have fled back to California. The investigation is ongoing and I will give updates as I can.”
